GEISHA, Momo Suzuki
Momo Suzuki began her study of classical Japanese dance at the age of seven, with the Fugima School of Yamagata, Japan. She studied traditional Japanese Fold dance at the Toriko Ogawa School under Sensei Ogawa who was also the folk dance instructor for the Japan Victor Company in Tokyo. She was both teacher and student at the Kamioka Japanese Folk Dance Company of Tokyo and she taught special dance workshops throughout the Tokyo area.
Her arrival to New York in 1983 was a supreme success. She performed at La Mama and Marymount Theaters with the Hibiki Performing Arts group. She also performed with Louis Johnson (choreographer of "The Wiz"), then started her own dance company, The Japanese Folk Dance Institute of New York Inc. to promote and preserve the folk dances of Japan.
