Message For Everyone
Chinese Lunar New Year is 1/29/06 with the Red Fire Dog loping into our lives on the first day of the solar Tiger Month a few days later, 2/4/06. This sociable creature takes the reins from 2005’s boss, the Green Rooster. They couldn’t be more different.
An old Chinese proverb says, “If a strange dog follows you home, your house will be blessed with prosperity.” Considered man’s best friend, Dogs are found everywhere we are, helping us be more human. Whether functioning as rescue workers in disastrous situations, guardians of property, farm workers, hunters, guides for the blind, or as just faithful pets and companions, Dog energy is an important part of our human landscape.
The Red Fire Dog combines Fire and Earth elements placing Yang Fire above the Earth (Dog) below— a very supportive arrangement in the Chinese philosophy of Five Elements. Yang Fire (symbolizing openness, optimism, warmth, respect and care) burns, giving birth to Earth. The Earth Dog underneath stores this Fire, creating a strong spiritual drive and attractive Doggy traits like loyalty and friendliness. The political atmosphere will shift toward the liberal end of the spectrum with more concern for the underdog.
It’s a mixed bag though. The very image of Fire over Earth evokes environmental calamity. This time, it’s not a hurricane or a tsunami, but possible volcanic eruptions, energy problems, earthquakes or mining accidents. It’s emotional to say the least. We are asked to be alert to our own potential for personal energy problems, volcanic and other eruptions, channeling stress and pressure carefully.
Loyal and honest, Fire Dog energy is particularly attractive and whether mutt or pedigree, very responsive (if sometimes pessimistic). Feed the lovable beast well and you will have a friend for life. And if romance comes your way in 2006, you will be a lucky Dog indeed. Nevertheless, remember that the Dog, though tamed, is a carnivorous animal whose characteristic voice is a loud bark.

RAT
Fire Dog assumes the role of teaching the instinctive Rat about scruples. A bit offensive to the clannish Rat. However, after adjusting to added duties and obligations and complying with the status quo, things improve. Remain upbeat about your relationships.

OX
So much anxiety. Where is it all going? Problems seem to spring up like so many mushrooms after the spring rains. All of them can be solved using the Ox’s usual diligence. Remember, Dog is vigilant, protecting you with or without your consent. Keep talking

TIGER
An excellent year for Tiger as you find a place of honor in Dog’s world. Build your success, progress, and prosperity on compromise. Connect with influential people. Investments pay off and a worthy cause earns your devotion. Good karma all around.

RABBIT
One of Rabbit’s good friends and protectors, Dog encourages you to use your natural diplomacy skills to face conflicts before they spin out of control. Watch your natural tendencies to worry and obsess. Things are looking up. The world is a safer place.

DRAGON
Dog is downright unimpressed by Dragon’s splendor and dazzle. In fact he refuses to even acknowledge your imagination and creativity. Not a year for ego satisfaction. Retreat from confrontation, work behind the scenes, and don’t be afraid to ask for assistance.

SNAKE
Problems with values and beliefs are better off on the back burner or dealt with through mediation. Keep your own counsel and value the relationships you’re in. Success comes from putting your consuming ambition aside in favor of loyalty and cooperation.

HORSE
On the one hand, Dog and Horse are great friends and there will be cause for celebration, professionally and personally. On the other, this Fire Dog’s passionate nature could cause Horse to get carried away and throw caution to the wind. Stay away from red.

One of Dog’s major tasks is keeping Sheep in line. Especially slacker sheep, black sheep, and those who don’t want to join the herd. If this sounds like you, the sooner you realize the Dog year is here, the better off you’ll be. Emigration is not an option.

MONKEY
Your metallic, sometimes-brittle nature softens and becomes more pliable under the Fire Dog. Mend fences as you will find it easier to reconnect with people. Unfortunately, risky Monkey business will have to wait for a more supportive environment.

ROOSTER
Success can be yours. Go for less bravado, more modesty, integrity and hard work in the Year of the Dog. With spotlights no longer shining on you, buckle down. Accept the fact that even though you might still be king of the roost, your leash is very short.

DOG
It’s a Dog’s life! Emotions are running high, your senses are finely tuned, riches abound and you are receiving all of the love and devotion you crave. Try to be discriminating though when it comes to business. Your wagging tail might be creating a blind spot.

PIG
2006 is not a time to arrogantly go it alone. Humbly accept the assistance offered from loyal Dog supporters and things will improve. After all, aren’t all of the problems confronting you related to your own past errors in judgment, neglect or miscalculations?
